Liechtenstein Financial Market

The financial sector and its intermediaries

In 2012, the financial sector contributed CHF 1,232.4 million (23.84%) to the country's aggregate gross value added. Thus, the financial sector ranks among the three most important segments of the Liechtenstein economy, behind the industrial and manufacturing (38.34%) and the general services (29.29%) sectors.

Significant in job creation

The financial sector is an important employer in Liechtenstein. In 2012, 4,895 persons (in full-time equivalents/annual average) were employed in the financial services sector. This corresponds to 16.13% of the working population.

High level of value added

Because of its high-density value addition, the financial sector in 2012 generated about a quarter of the country's aggregate gross value added of the economic sectors with only 16% of its workforce and thus created a significant portion of the Liechtenstein population's affluence.
